Movies, Infotainment and Kids' genres too grow significantly. Hindi general entertainment genre grows by 3%

News television grows by 298% in the first week of nationwide lockdown

In Week 12 of 2020, which is one full week of the complete nationwide lockdown — March 21 to 27, news television has grown by 298% over the pre-Covid period between January 11 and 31 (Week 2-4).

While movies grew by 56%, the Kids’ genre grew by 39 %, Infotainment grew by 63% and Lifestyle grew by 20%. GEC viewership in non-prime time grew by 32 % while News viewership in non-prime time grew by 200%. Kids’ viewership in non-prime time grew by 58%

Total TV consumption increased by 37% at an all-India level. In Hindi-speaking markets, the growth is higher at 41%.

Male viewership saw the highest growth at 41%, while female viewing grew by 34%.

The highest-ever 1.2 trillion viewing minutes was recorded in Week 12.

Average Time Spent (ATS) on total television rose to 4 hours 39 minutes.

Watch this space for more information later as the Zoom meeting organised by BARC India, which was being attended by over 800 people from the industry, was hacked. BARC India had to stop the meeting because inappropriate content started playing out. This has raised security issues in the Zoom app.

Update: BARC India has cancelled the virtual meeting which it had rescheduled at 4 pm.
