Tata Group will replace Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo as IPL title sponsor from 2022, IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel told ANI. The tournament will be known as Tata IPL for 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Vivo had a five-year-long contract with IPL worth Rs 2,200 crore, Rs 440 crore a year from 2018 to 2022.
This is the second time that Vivo has exited from the IPL sponsorship deal. When the Chinese mobile manufacturer had pulled out from the five-year deal in 2020 amid heightened border tensions between India and China, Dream11 was named IPL 2020 title sponsorship for Rs 222 crore.
After dropping in 2020 from the five-year sponsorship deal, Vivo was supposed to be the title sponsor till 2023.
Prior to 2018, Vivo was the title sponsor of IPL for a two-year period after Pepsi dropped out from the sponsorship.
