As the OTT war continues to intensify, streaming platform Disney+ hotstar has announced a new line-up of digital shows, including subsequent seasons of older originals.
Sunil Rayan, President and Head Disney+ hotstar, said it has been an unprecedented year and they have seen a tremendous response to some of their originals and live events such as IPL.
Speaking about their vision for the platform, he said at a virtual event, “We are proud that we are going to be the only platform that has a robust offering of some of the biggest live sports tournaments in the world. We have the ICC T20 World Cup coming up and the IPL, so it will be something everyone can look forward to. Secondly, we are more than doubling the number of digital titles on our platform this year and scaling entertainment like never before."
“We are expanding our regional language offering with an exciting line-up of Tamil and Telugu originals and subsequently other languages as well, in addition to the pan-India Hindi content we have. These stories are mounted at an unprecedented level with the top talent in the industry and stars who are most loved by audiences,” Rayan said.
The platform that had initiated the trend of direct-to-digital releases in the country is yet again bringing numerous movie titles to the digital screen. These include Bhuj: The Pride of India, Hungama 2, Collar Bomb and Bhoot Police. Along with these, the subsequent seasons of shows such as Aarya, Special Ops, City of Dreams, Criminal Justice are lined up.
The new digital shows include The Empire, based on Alex Rutherford’s Empire of the Moghul novels starring Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Dino Morea. Rudra: The Edge of Darkness starring Ajay Devgn and Esha Deol and Six Suspects starring Pratik Gandhi and Richa Chadha. Many other original titles are also in the pipeline.
Talking about their approach this year, Rayan hinted at changing subscription plans. He said they want the subscribers to not be restricted by what plan they are choosing. “We are making all our content, be it Disney+ or hotstar specials, available to all subscription plans.”
