GEC Watch: Sony leads in urban markets despite no show being in top five

Star Plus has lost significant numbers to drop to No. 6 spot on U+R list, while Zee TV has grown to replace Star Plus at No. 2. None of Sony's shows have been listed in the top five lists across the three markets

GEC Watch: Sony leads in urban markets despite no show being in top five

Sony Entertainment Television has emerged as the leader in the urban markets, while Zee Anmol leads the U+R and rural markets’ lists in Week 36 of 2018 (September 1-7). Zee TV replaced Star Plus at the No. 2 position in U+R, while Star Plus dropped to No. 6. As per BARC India data, none of Sony’s shows have been listed in the top five lists across the three markets.

Amongst the most watched shows list, Sony Sab’s Baalveer entered the top shows’ lists in the rural markets. The rest of the top performers remained the same.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 36 of 2018 (September 1-7) for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Zee Anmol remained at the leadership position in the U+R markets with 838.334 million (last week 699.774   million) Impressions. Zee TV jumped to No. 2 clocking 689.309 million (last week 587.456 million). At No. 3, Star Utsav garnered 658.543 million (last week 617.438 million). Star Bharat grabbed No. 4 spot clocking 645.596 million (last week 624.084 million) Impressions. Sony Pal remained at No. 5 spot clocking 622.584 million (last week 589.461 million) Impressions. Star Plus slipped to No.6 with 614.665 million (last week 650.282 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television climbed to No. 7 by clocking 599.495 million (last week 487.858 million) Impressions followed by Colors, stood at No. 8 spot, garnering 584.060 million (last week 601.063 million) Impressions. Rishtey dropped by one spot to No. 9 position with 532.809 million (last week 489.549  million) Impressions. At No. 10 is Dangal TV, clocking  477.791  million (last week 473.572 million) Impressions.

Top shows in U+R markets

Colors’ Naagin-3 clocked 14.294 million (last week 13.612 million) Impressions, leading the most-watched programmes’ list in the U+R segment. Zee Anmol’s Kumkum Bhagya grabbed the No. 2 garnering 13.785 Impressions. As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya came next at No. 3 with 12.676 million Impressions, followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya which garnered 12.075 Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlaata Hai dropped to No. 5, clocking 11.022 million (last week 11.421 million) Impressions.

Top channels in urban markets

Sony Entertainment Television jumped to the top position  in Week 36 in the urban markets grabbing 448.725 million (last week 349.049 million) Impressions. At No.2 is Star Plus with 439.702 million (last week 442.142 million) Impressions. Zee TV, meanwhile remained at No. 3 clocked 421.594 million (last week 356.511 million) Impressions, Colors dropped to No.4  gaining 397.917 million Impressions (last week 417.313 million) Impressions, followed by Sony SAB at No. 5 that clocked 333.351million (last week 352.806 million) Impressions. At No. 6, Star Bharat garnered 316.790 million (last week 309.917 million) Impressions. Star Utsav at No. 7 garnered 194.877million (last week 191.798 million) Impressions, followed by Sony Pal that stood at No. 8 with 171.878 million (last week 171.388 million) Impressions. Zee Anmol at No. 9 registered 154.769 million (last week 158.969 million) Impressions. &TV was at the last spot clocking 129.874 million (last week 136.050 million) Impressions.

Top programmes in urban markets          

Colors’ Naagin-3 remained the most-watched show in the urban markets with 9.551 million (last week 10.743 million) Impressions, followed by Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that garnered 8.133 million (last week 8.089 million) Impressions. As per select data {HSM (urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800-2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya was at the third spot in the most-watched shows’ list, by clocking 7.795 million (last week 7.368 million) Impressions in the urban market, followed by channel’s Kumkum Bhagya that registered 7.142 million Impressions. Sab’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was at the last spot with 7.120 million (last week 6.983 million) Impressions.

Top channels in rural markets

Zee Anmol held on to the top spot with 683.566 million (last week 565.647 million) Impressions. Star Utsav was at No. 2 position garnering 463.666 million (last week 442.493 million) Impressions. Sony Pal stayed at No. 3 in rural markets garnering 450.706 million (last week 414.559 million) Impressions. Rishtey stayed at No. 4 with 414.199 million (last week 368.835 million) Impressions. Dangal, at No. 5, clocked 380.258 million (last week 352.099 million) Impressions. Star Bharat, at No. 6 in the rural markets, recorded 328.806 million (last week 314.197 million) Impressions. Zee TV, at No. 7 with 267.715 million (last week 235.477 million) Impressions. Big Magic followed with 239.851 million (last week 239.459 million) Impressions. Colors at No. 9 clocked 186.143 million (last week 177.783 million) Impressions. Star Plus, at No. 10, garnered 174.962 million (last week 200.732 million) Impressions.

Top programmes in rural markets

Zee Anmol’s KumkumBhagya was the most-watched show in the rural market grabbing 11.558 million (last week 10.430 million), followed by Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmah that clocked 6.906 million (last week 6.249 million) Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Mehak was at the third spot in the rural markets gathering 6.246 million (last week 5.975 million) Impressions. Star Utsav’s Rabba Ve slipped to the No. 4 spot in top shows’ list garnering 5.953 million (last week 5.712 million) Impressions. Sony Pal’s Balveer got 5.233 million Impressions.
