About a week after pulling out of BARC India, the English news channels under News Broadcasters Association (NBA) have decided to join back.
Beginning tonight at 00.00 hours, the news channels that removed the watermarking on May 18 will switch it back on.
Only Republic TV and WION did not opt out of BARC India.
Republic TV was allegedly running its channel on multiple Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs) within different genres. In a letter dated May 15, the NBA had requested BARC to not release the data for week 19 (May 6 to 12). However, when BARC released the said data on May 18, the English news channels that were a part of NBA pulled out of BARC data and removed watermark from their channel feeds.
In addition to this, a lot of complaint letters were filed from various channel offices to the higher authorities. India Today Group had filed a complaint to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against Republic TV on May 11 and another complaint against Times Now on May 16. BARC too received similar complaint letters. The India Today Group had also filed a case against Republic TV, wherein BARC and TRAI were also made parties for not taking action against the alleged multiple LCNs by Republic TV.
The Delhi High Court dismissed this case yesterday.
