Wild fluctuations in TAM data continue for English news channels and GECS, leading major networks to pull out of TAM data and more of them about to do so. BestMediaInfo does a quick analysis of the News Channels category

publive-imageWith major networks like Multi Screen Media, NDTV, Times Television Network, TV18, Viacom18, Sri Adhikari Brothers, Star India and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) having pulled out of TAM data or having written to TAM expressing their intent to withdraw from TAM, BestMediaInfo.com takes a look at the latest TAM viewership data for English news channels to show the fluctuation in data that forced broadcasters at large to take this drastic step.

We are considering the relative channel shares of English news channels and English business news channels in Week 23 versus previous week and 13-week average among the core TG of CS M 25+ AB in All India and All India 1mn+ markets.

According to TAM data sourced from TAM subscribers, Times Now had a relative channel share of 75 per cent in Week 23 against 55 per cent in the previous week and 40 per cent in last 13 weeks in All India 1mn+ markets. In All India markets, Times Now had 43 per cent relative share in Week 23 compared with 40 per cent in the previous week and 34 per cent in last 13 weeks.

The second most watched channel was CNN-IBN with 17 per cent relative channel share in Week 23 1mn+ markets against 9 per cent in the previous week and 17 per cent in last 13 weeks. In All India markets, the channel had 14 per cent relative channel share in Week 23 against 7 per cent in the previous week and 20 per cent in the last 13 weeks.

Headlines Today fetched 8 per cent relative channel share in Week 23 in 1mn+ markets compared with zero per cent in the previous week and 18 per cent in last 13 weeks. The channel had 0 per cent relative channel share in All India markets in Week 23 and Week 22 while its average share in last 13 weeks was 14 per cent.

NDTV's relative channel share in 1mn+ markets was nil in Week 23 compared with 36 per cent in the previous week and 21 per cent in last 13 weeks. In All India markets, the channel had fetched 36 per cent of relative channel share compared with 40 per cent in the previous week and 26 per cent in last 13 weeks.

NewsX had nil shares in Week 23 and Week 22 in 1mn+ markets but had 4 per cent of relative channel share in last 13 weeks. However, the channel had 7 per cent and 13 per cent of relative channel share in All India markets in Week 23 and Week 22, respectively. Considering the average of last 13 weeks, NewX had relative channel share of 5 per cent in All India markets.
