New Delhi: A day after I&B Ministry’s advisory to all private satellite TV channels to refrain from unfair practice of multiple uplinking of the permitted channels on multiple frequencies, Arnab Goswami’s Republic Media Network ran same feed on its Hindi and English news channels during the counting hours on Tuesday.

The advisory issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday noted that in order to make their channel to be the most watched channel, some news broadcaster follow unfair practices of uplinking their channels on multiple feed as a result of which it becomes available on multiple LCNs across various distribution platforms which gives an undue advantage in increasing the viewership of the channel.

“Therefore, in order to ensure that such a scenario do not arise and also to ensure a level playing field, all permitted private satellite TV channels/ broadcaster are hereby advised to refrain from adopting such practices of unauthorised uplinking of their TV channels on multiple frequency without approval of the ministry,” the advisory said.

Even as Republic TV and Republic Bharat are running on their respective LCNs, the content carrying same watermark is running on both the channels against the guidelines laid out in the Cable Television Network (Regulation), 1995.

Both the news channels are registered with th I&B ministry in different languages and the act crearly defines that a channel has to carry the content in the language it is registered for.

Republic TV has been resorting to such practice on all the counting days since the launch of its Hindi channel, to inflate its TRPs by unfair means. BestMediaInfo.com highlighted this during the counting day in 2022.

To make it simple for our readers, Republic Bharat falls under the Bucket C reserved for Hindi news channels in DD Freedish auctions while Republic TV falls under Bucket D reserved for English news channels.

Similar watermarks on both the channels will complicate the process for BARC to distribute the viewership between both the channels.

On earlier occasions, BARC officials told BestMediaInfo.com that the rating agency takes utmost care in arriving on final numbers for both channels.
