Ameen Sayani, the radio presenter known for hosting the popular show "Binaca GeetMala," passed away on Tuesday due to a heart attack. He was 91.
Sayani’s son, Rajil Sayani confirmed the news of his father’s death.
He mentioned that his father suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night, following which they rushed him to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away. Rajil shared, "The doctors at the hospital attended to him, but unfortunately, they couldn't save him, and he was declared dead."
Born in 1932, Sayani became renowned among listeners for his distinctive style of addressing the audience with 'Behno aur Bhaiyo' instead of the traditional 'Bhaiyo aur Behno'.
In addition to hosting Binaca Geetmala and Bournvita Quiz Contest, he also produced and hosted radio programs such as S Kumars Ka Filmi Muqaddama, Filmi Mulaqaat, Saridon Ke Saathi, Shalimar Superlac Jodi, Maratha Darbar, and Sangeet kay Sitaron ki Mehfil.
He also spearheaded a 13-episode radio series featuring plays based on real-life stories of individuals grappling with HIV/AIDS, supplemented by interviews with prominent doctors and social activists.
Furthermore, Sayani was a trailblazer in exporting Indian radio programs and advertisements starting from 1976. His initiatives extended to countries including the USA, the UK, the UAE, Canada, Swaziland, South Africa, Fiji, and New Zealand.
