Meet new I&B secretary Sanjay Jaju

Sanjay Jaju, who replaces Apurva Chandra as I&B secretary, is a 1992-batch IAS officer.

Prior to this appointment, Jaju was serving in his cadre state of Telangana where he was Telangana Bhavan OSD based in New Delhi.

Jaju was Additional Secretary in the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence until Ocober 2022.

He was instrumental in formulation of the policies for bringing in investments and growth in Defence and Aerospace sectors to advance the “Make in India” resolve.

He also played a key role in setting up Defence Innovation Organisation for creating a collaborative platform for Startups to meet Defence requirements.

A Post Graduate Mechanical Engineer and a Cost & Management Accountant by background and Jaju has completed MBA in Finance.

He has worked in diverse areas like Defence, Information Technology, Urban, Infrastructure, Civil Supplies, and Education & Tribal Welfare.

One strand common across these jobs has been his passion for Information Technology. He has been an ardent advocate of Information Technology for Development and Governance.

He earlier worked as the founding Director (A&F) in the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

He had earlier worked as Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh in Information Technology & Communications Department.

Jaju has participated in International and National Conferences on the development of Information driven open societies. He has written many papers that have been published and awarded in National and International Journals and Publications. He is part of the Inaugural Class of the India Leadership Initiative of Aspen Institute, USA.
