The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced a postponement of the deadline for submitting comments on the National Broadcast Policy pre-consultation paper. The new deadline for submitting comments on the policy has been rescheduled to October 31, 2023.
TRAI had initially issued a pre-consultation paper on inputs for the formulation of the "National Broadcasting Policy" on September 21, 2023.
Originally, the deadline for stakeholders to provide feedback on the issues raised in the pre-consultation paper was set for October 10, 2023.
However, in response to requests from stakeholders seeking an extension for comment submission on the pre-consultation paper, TRAI has decided to extend the deadline until October 31, 2023.
The need for a comprehensive broadcasting policy, capable of updating existing provisions to address emerging challenges, has been a long-standing concern among stakeholders and policymakers.
In fact, this issue was one of the five key points presented by Disney Star Country Manager K Madhavan to policymakers during the opening day of the 11th CII Big Picture Summit last year.
