Blackstone in talks with Disney for acquisition of stake in Indian arm: Reports

Blackstone, a private equity firm, has initiated talks with Walt Disney regarding the potential acquisition of a stake in Disney's Indian subsidiary, as per the news reports.

Blackstone is the latest potential contender to acquire Disney's assets. Disney has been exploring options for the sale or partnership of its digital and TV business.

Candle Media, a US media company backed by Blackstone and established by former Disney executives, played a leading role in facilitating discussions between the two parties last week, as per one of the sources.

Earlier, Disney was also engaged in discussions with prominent Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Kalanithi Maran, the owner of Sun TV Network.

As per news reports, Disney is exploring the possibility of divesting its assets in India, which encompass sports broadcasting rights and its regional streaming platform, Disney+ Hotstar.
