Colors Tamil will be premiering ‘Thugs’ on this Independence Day at 2 pm as part of its ‘Movie of the Month series. The film features Hridhu Haroon, Bobby Simha, RK Suresh, Munishkanth and Anaswara Rajan in the main roles.
Brinda Gopal directed the film with music by Sam CS and cinematography by Priyesh Gurusamy. The movie is produced by Riya Thameens, under the banner HR Pictures in association with JioCinema.
Sethu (Haroon) is sentenced to life imprisonment for second-degree murder. On his first day at the district jail in Nagercoil, he helps the prison guards foil an escape plan by a group of inmates. Consequently, the head warden, Arokkya Das (Suresh), favours him. However, he is constantly tormented by the gang whose plan he spoiled, forcing him to plan his own escape. Sethu shares his plan with his cellmate, Durai (Bobby Simha). Initially, Durai is not interested in escaping but agrees when he finds out that his wife is being preyed upon by rowdy elements at the marketplace where she works. Durai, however, is shifted to a more secure prison when the guards find marijuana in his cell. Sethu, with a few other inmates, digs a hole through the toilet of their cell which opens up in the compound. Here, they start building a tunnel bit-by-bit. As the day of escape comes closer, the leader of the gang that tried to escape earlier is transferred to Sethu's cell, making their task even more complicated.
Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Gopal said, “I am extremely thrilled that my sophomore film ‘Thugs’ is set for a World Television Premiere on Colors Tamil, with whom I have been associated for the longest time. It feels like a homecoming. All of us had worked for the film in a single schedule and this film promises an exciting mixture of high-octane action and a raw, brooding story. It’s also a technically strong film so I am positive that it’s going to give a pulsating experience to the viewers.”.
Building on the same theme, Haroon said, “Thugs is my first feature film release and will always remain close to my heart. I am extremely excited about its Television Premiere on Colors Tamil. I played the mastermind character Sethu, an Orphan hailing from Thovalai. The love and appreciation I got for this character cannot be expressed in words, I owe this to director Brinda for moulding my character and my co-actors Bobby Simha and Munishkanth for supporting Sethu equally. I am sure that viewers are going to like the raw and violent saga and they will stay hooked throughout.”
