Instagram has put to rest the hoopla over its plans to introduce a text-based app similar to Twitter by launching Thread in the US.
The global rollout of the decentralised platform is expected to take place on July 6, as per App Store data.
According to the App Store listing, “Thread, an Instagram App” is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics one cares about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow in addition to whatever one is interested in- be it following and connecting directly with creators and others who love the same things or building a loyal following of one’s own to share one’s ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.
Notably, Threads is Instagram’s first attempt at a decentralised platform through a standalone app, it has mainly focused on building centralised platforms over the years.
Moreover, the users of the text-based conversation app will already have their existing Instagram circles on Threads right from the get-go as it will directly port over one’s Instagram followers and following lists, instead of requiring users to rebuild their communities from scratch.
