When Aroon Purie made PM Modi laugh at India Today Conclave

India Today Group Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Aroon Puri Saturday made Prime Minister Narendra Modi laugh during his welcome speech.

During the course of his introduction in Hindi to the Prime Minister, Puri said, “If you do not mind, I would like to say something. The media is disturbed by your government because there is no leakage from your government like the previous regimes. No one knows who will be your presidential candidate… forget about the cabinet reshuffle. In states, no one gets information about who will become the chief minister.”

Purie then answered himself on the behalf of the PM.

“Forgive me, but I also thought about what your answer would be to this,” said Purie.

When the PM nodded and signalled yes with a smile on his face, Puri said, “You will say, Aroon bhai… main aapki dukaan kyun chalaoon (why should I run your business).”

This made the PM and the audience burst into laughter.

The PM then began his address gracefully responding to Purie and said, “Bhai… aapki dukaan main hi chala leta hoon (let me run your business).”

PM Modi delivered the keynote address on the concluding day of the India Today Conclave 2023, which began on March 17. He also lauded the theme of the Conclave, ‘The India Moment’, and listed India's achievements in the first 75 days of this year.
