Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Disney Star has roped in 11 sponsors and around 55 brands.
According to sources, some of the main sponsors could be Vivo, Airtel, Coke, Asian Paints, Pepsi, Tata and Dream 11. The 55 advertisers that have been onboarded are primarily from categories like fantasy gaming, beverage, telecom, fintech, insurance, auto, online delivery, consumer durables, paints, FMCG and travel.
Last year, the overall Disney Star's TV revenue from IPL was around Rs 4,000-4,100 crore, which includes income from advertising and distribution. Currently, Star Sport is asking for Rs 16-17 lakh for 10-second ads.
In IPL 2022, the media conglomerate had roped in 15 TV and 13 digital sponsors. As per the reports, it had over 100 brands advertising during the matches.
Earlier, Disney Star confirmed that it is set to broadcast 12 IPL matches for free on its free-to-air (FTA) channel Star Utsav Movies in 2023.
This is the first time Disney Star will telecast IPL on its FTA channel, which reaches over 200 million viewers. The move is expected to boost Disney Star's viewership in the rural market. Touted as a trump card to mitigate the impact of JioCinema’s strategy of streaming IPL for free, Disney Star’s move is being followed by advertisers closely.
While the market is abuzz with analysts' and experts' viewpoints that this move will provide an incremental reach for advertisers, the broadcast media rights holder will also sell the FTA feed separately and onboard a new set of advertisers.
