ASCI extends deadline for submitting feedback on 'Dark Patterns in Advertising' discussion paper

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has extended the deadline for feedback and comments on the recommendations made by it in the discussion paper - titled ‘Dark Patterns in Advertising’ – to January 16.

ASCI had recently published a discussion paper titled ‘Dark Patterns in Advertising’, and it had sought public feedback and comments on the recommendations made in it. It has now extended the deadline for the feedback based on requests it has received from a few organisations.

The paper highlighted how certain UI/UX deployed by digital platforms could manipulate consumer choices and consumption patterns to the detriment of consumer interest.

The self-regulatory organisation had invited public feedback and comments on the recommendations of the discussion paper which would help ASCI extend its self-regulatory code on objectionable ads to cover dark patterns too.

Submissions by any member of the public or any organisation can be sent to contact@ascionline.in

The document can be accessed here: https://ascionline.in/images/pdf/dark-patterns.pdf.
