The presidential election of India was one of the most read topics during the month of July, as per the readership insights for the month by Taboola.

Taboola, which powers recommendations for the open web, helping people discover things they may like, has released the readership insights for the month of July 2022.

Using Topic Insights, Taboola Newsroom used real time audience analytics to discover some of the interesting and trending topics that caught Indian reader’s attention over the last month.

The surge in page view traffic revealed insights around the diverse interests of the Indian audience in content across sports, politics, and entertainment. Here are some of the key insights revealed from the readership trends released:

Sports

India’s love for cricket is never ending. The ODI (One Day International) caused a 372% surge in the readership over the last 45 days and peaked during mid-July as the season neared its end.

Politics

The presidential election was one of the most read topics during the month of July. Droupadi Murmu became the President, and the first person from the tribal community to helm the highest constitutional post. This news saw a 520% surge in readership as online readers closely watched the electoral race and swearing-in ceremony.

Moreover, the appointment of Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, following the resignation of Uddhav Thackeray piqued reader’s interest. The articles related to Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray saw a readership surge of 575% (16 million pageviews) and 1,043% (15 million pageviews) respectively.

Entertainment

The social media post by Lalit Modi with Sushmita Sen caused a frenzy amongst the Indian readers. As readers took to the internet to unearth the details of their relationship, Taboola Newsroom saw a 1,895% increase in readership around articles related to the couple.

Ranveer Singh’s photo shoot for Paper magazine broke the internet as netizens searched the internet surging the readership to 9.5 million as compared to last 45 days.
