Broadcast Seva Portal will empower the entire broadcast sector: I&B Minister Anurag Thakur

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting launched the Broadcast Seva Portal for speedy filing and processing of applications of broadcasters for various kinds of licenses, permissions, registrations, etc on Monday.

During the launch event, Union Minister for I&B and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Thakur said that the Broadcast Seva Portal will reduce the turnaround time of applications and at the same time will help applicants track their progress. This portal will reduce the human interface that was required earlier and thus add to the capacity building of the Ministry, it will be a major step towards Ease of Doing Business, as per Thakur.

He said, “The story of Digital India is the biggest part of the making of new India. Using these technologies in the past few years, we’ve tried to make the system more transparent. The Indian M&E industry is worth $25 billion right now and is further expected to grow and become a $30 billion industry in the next two years. The portal will boost the business environment and empower the entire broadcast sector by directly benefiting more than 900 Satellite TV channels, 70 teleport operators, 1700 multi-service operators, 350 community radio stations (CRS), 380 private FM channels and others.”

Thakur launched the portal in the presence of Apurva Chandra, I&B Ministry Secretary, Neerja Sekhar Additional Secretary, and other dignitaries from the Ministry as well as the Indian broadcast industry.

Broadcast Seva (BS) portal is a 360-degree digital solution that will facilitate the stakeholders in seeking permissions, applying for registration, tracking applications, calculating fees and executing payments. This portal will provide its services under the wider umbrella efforts of Digital India to all stakeholders, including private satellite TV channels, teleport operators, MSOs, community and private radio channels etc.

The portal will also come in handy for those who require permissions for Uplinking/downlinking of private satellite TV channels and teleporting, Uplinks by news agencies, permission for use of SNG/DSNGs for news gatherings etc.

Speaking at the launch event, Chandra said, “This Seva portal is integrated with Ministry of Corporate Affairs so that we can immediately get the details like TIN number, directors of the company and balance sheets etc of the company.

Chandra further said that the new portal has several improvements over the previous version and has incorporated suggestions from stakeholders over a trial period of one month.

Sahay, during his welcome note, spoke about the portal that was launched in 2016 which was benefiting the stakeholders.

“With the launch of the new portal, we have moved from a flat UV dimensional, static portal to a multi-dimensional and dynamic portal. The portal has been developed in collaboration with Basil-the technical consultant partner and TCS,” Sahay said.

Various services and features of the portal include:

●          Integration with payment system (Bharat Kosh)

●          Integration with E-Office and stakeholder ministries

●          Analytics, Reporting and Management Information System (MIS)

●          Integrated Helpdesk

●          Application forms and status tracking

●          Downloading letters/orders from the portal itself

●          Alerts to stakeholders (SMS/E-Mails)
