Shyamal Majumdar has returned to Financial Express as its new Editor. Majumdar retired from Business Standard as Editor in October 2021. He was associated with Business Standard for over 21 years.
Viveck Goenka, Chairman, Managing Director and Editorial Director of the Indian Express Group, announced this in an internal email to his staff.
Majumdar has spent more than three decades being a sharp and non partisan observer of the Indian economy, Goenka wrote. “Of that time, several years were spent at the Express Group.”
“Today, he joins us at a very interesting period for the Indian economy when it is delicately poised, at an intersection of domestic politics and global tensions. At such a time, his incisive intellect will be a great asset to the readers of the Financial Express,” Goenka added.
It may be recalled that Financial Express Managing Editor Sunil Jain passed away due to a cardiac arrest after battling COVID-19 on May 15, 2021.
Remembering Jain, Goenka said, “I cannot conclude without remembering Sunil Jain and how much we all miss him. I am certain Shyamal will be a very worthy and able successor to Sunil. In Shobhana and all her colleagues, Shyamal will have a wonderful team to work with.”
