On National Press Day, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur has called the Indian media to curb “fake narrative” keeping it at par with the menace of “fake news”.
“The media is a watchdog and has a key role to play in the vibrant democracy of India. On this day, I call upon my friends from the media to make all efforts to curb the menace of fake news and fake narratives.”
Fake narratives have gained momentum not only on social media but in news media where any information is picked up and twisted in order to suit one’s narrative.
Calling this alarming trend a menace, Thakur said in a video message, “The Government of India on its part has taken measures like the establishment of a fact check unit at the Press Information Bureau which has gained popularity. It is our collective responsibility to work against fake news and fake narratives.”
