IPL 2020 sets new record; over 200 million viewers watched the opening match across TV and digital

Even as BARC India is yet to release the viewership data for the IPL 2020 under its PreView service, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce the new record set by IPL 2020. Quoting BARC India, Shah claimed that the opening match of IPL 2020 was watched by over 200 million people across television and digital. Star Sports India later retweeted Shah’s quote.

IPL 2020 kicked of in UAE on Saturday, September 19, amid ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament will conclude on November 10, 2020.

Launched in April 2018, BARC PreView is a service wherein the subscribers are able to access the data of a specific event or show, two days after it is telecast. PreView data is also released through BARC India's YUMI Analytics software, which is available on subscription.

Generally, BARC India releases weekly average data every Thursday for the period between Saturday to Friday of the previous week in its YUMI Analytics software and a few slices of that on its website for public consumption.
