#CoronavirusOutbreak: D&AD Festival 2020 cancelled, awards move online

D&AD CEO Patrick Burgoyne announced the cancellation of D&AD Festival 2020, however, the D&AD Awards 2020 will still take place. Burgoyne said that D&AD is exploring new ways of celebrating the Pencil winners with the community, wherever they are.

In recognition of the severe disruption the industry has already faced and in response to requests from the community, D&AD has extended the entry deadline to April 3, 2020 and the eligibility period to April 19, 2020. The eligibility deadline will be extended beyond this date, D&AD said.

To reduce the number of physical submissions participants need to make, D&AD has introduced digital submissions for all categories.

“The only exceptions are Book Design, Magazine & Newspaper Design, Graphic Design and Packaging Design, which still have physical material options but we can accept digital submissions in the event that sending physical materials is not feasible,” it said.

Virtual judging will take place from 12 May - 5 June 2020.

“For Book Design, Graphic Design, Magazine & Newspaper Design and Packaging Design, where in-person judging is critical, we are implementing changes to minimise the size of the gatherings and international travel,” D&AD said.

D&AD will share more details regarding the winners announcement soon.
