Beginning Week 23 of 2019, the viewership data for which was released today to its subscribers, BARC India has started filtering out outliers from landing page. The joint industry body had stopped this exercise for the previous week data following TDSAT judgement related to landing page that said it was not illegal.
In its order on May 29, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had set aside TRAI’s direction on the landing page issue wherein all the broadcasters and distributors of television channels were directed to restrain from placing any registered satellite television channel (whose TV rating was measured by BARC India) on the landing LCN or landing channel or boot up screen.
After that, BARC India had said that it would continue to measure viewership of landing page.
BARC, while releasing data for Week 23, said, "Please note that as per representations received from various stakeholders and as per our board mandate, we are in the interim reverting to our earlier process for treatment of landing page. The same will be reflective from Week 23 onwards till further notice. The process is also under review by the board."
