Swati Shetty has resigned from her role as the Director of International Original and Acquisitions at Netflix India.
Confirming the news, Netflix stated, “Yes, we can confirm that Swati Shetty has decided to leave Netflix.”
Shetty was based in LA and was asked to shift to Mumbai as the American streaming service was planning to boost their presence in India.
Shetty has been with the company since the start of its India operations. In her two-year stint, Shetty has been instrumental in acquiring popular films such as Love Per Square Feet’, ‘Lust Stories’ and ‘Rajma.’
In India, Netflix is planning to strengthen its hold with the launch of new original productions and acquisitions. Recently at an event, Shetty had announced a seven-film slate for 2019.
Before joining Netflix, Shetty has worked with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms as the President. She has also worked with The Walt Disney Studios as Associate Director at the Disney ABC Television Group and as manager at Star India Pvt Ltd.
The replacement for Shetty is yet to be announced.
