Colors continued to rank at the top spot in the Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) in the urban markets in the Week 29 of 2018 (July 14-20), even as BARC India updated its universe in this week. Zee Anmol too maintained lead in rural and U+R markets.

BARC India has released the findings of its Broadcast India (BI) 2018 Survey, based on a sample study of 3 lakh homes in the country. As per the latest BI 2018 Survey, TV homes in the country have seen a 7.5% jump, outpacing the growth of homes in India, which grew at 4.5%. India currently has 298 million homes, of which 197 million have a TV set, having an opportunity of almost 100mn more TV homes in the country.

The ranking in the top shows’ list remains the same, with minor changes.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 29 of 2018 (July 14-20) for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Zee Anmol stayed at the top spot in the U+R markets, despite loss in numbers, with 715.928 million Impressions. Zee TV stuck to No. 2 with 612.711 million Impressions. Colors climbed up with tremendous growth, garnering 608.701 million Impressions. Star Bharat stayed at No. 4, garnering 591.833 million Impressions. Sony Pal at No. 3 position clocked 586.868 million Impressions. Star Utsav was at the sixth spot garnering 585.245 million Impressions, followed by Star Plus at No. 7 with 532.629 million Impressions. Sony SAB climbed to No. 8 with 468.725 million Impressions. Rishtey at No. 9 position stood with 458.122 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed at No. 10 by clocking 447.894 million Impressions.

Top shows in U+R markets 

Colors’ Naagin-3 clocked 15.466 million Impressions, leading the most watched programmes list in the U+R segment. As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, while Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya came in next with 13.238 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya became the third most watched show by clocking 12.298 million Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Kumkum Bhagya was at No. 4 and clocked 10.764 million Impressions. At No. 5, Zee TV’s Ishq Subhan Allah clocked 9.572 million Impressions.

Top channels in urban markets

Riding on the back of the third season of its most popular franchise Naagin and the universe update, Colors strengthened its position at the top spot garnering 418.591 million Impressions. A lot changed with the new universe, as Star Plus rose to the No. 2 spot displacing Zee TV in the urban markets with 373.801 million Impressions. Zee TV, meanwhile, at No. 3 clocked 361.820 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB at No. 4, clocking 341.484 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed on No. 5 spot with 330.386 million Impressions. At No. 6, Star Bharat garnered 286.070 million Impressions, followed by Sony Pal that stood at No. 7 with 181.321 million Impressions. Star Utsav at No. 8 garnered 179.341 million Impressions. Zee Anmol at No. 9 registered 156.429 million Impressions. &TV was at the last spot by clocking 124.069 million Impressions.

Top programmes in urban markets

Colors’ Naagin-3 remained the most watched show in the urban markets with 9.916 million Impressions as per select data {HSM (urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800-2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, followed by Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya that stayed at the third spot in the most watched shows list by clocking 7.788 million Impressions in the urban market, followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya with 7.252 million Impressions. Sony Sab’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma clocked 6.427 million Impressions. At No. 5 was Zee TV’s Ishq Subhan Allah which has garnered 6.412 million Impressions.

Top channels in rural markets

Zee Anmol held on to the top spot with 559.499 million Impressions. Star Utsav rose to the No. 2 position garnering 405.904 million Impressions. Sony Pal slipped to No. 3 in rural markets garnering 405.547 million Impressions. Rishtey was at No. 4 position with 337.599 million Impressions. Star Bharat at No. 5 in the rural markets recorded 305.763 million Impressions. Dangal at No. 6 clocked 277.635 million Impressions. Zee TV slipped to No. 7 with 250.891 million Impressions. Colors at No. 8 clocked 190.110 million Impressions. Big Magic followed with 185.771 million Impressions. Star Plus at No. 10 garnered 158.828 million Impressions.

Top programmes in rural markets

Zee Anmol’s Kumkum Bhagya was the most watched show in the rural market, grabbing 8.848 million. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah clocked 6.465 million Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Mehak stood next with 6.317 million Impressions followed by Colors’ Naagin-3 stayed at the fourth spot in the rural markets gathering 5.551 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya lists fifth with 5.451 million Impressions.
