GEC Watch: Zee Anmol starts the year with a lead in U+R

Zee Anmol opened on top in the first week of 2018 (Week 1, December 30-January 5) of BARC India data, as the channel ranked No. 1 in the combined U+R markets. In the urban markets, Colors continued on top, while Zee Anmol too continued its leadership in the rural markets.

As per BARC India data, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on Sab TV topped the list of the most watched shows in the urban data, though Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya kept their leadership positions in the combined markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 1 of 2018 (December 30-January 5) for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Zee Anmol climbed back to the top in the combined U+R markets with 685.344 million (last week 682.234 million) Impressions. In turn, Star Bharat slipped to No. 2 with 678.228 million (last week 692.154 million) Impressions. Colors kept going at No. 3 position with 598.060 million (last week 600.546 million) Impressions. Zee TV regained the No. 4 position garnering 569.854 million (last week 591.855 million) Impressions. Sony Pal climbed up to reach the No. 5 spot with 557.297 million (last week 561.552 million) Impressions. Star Utsav slipped by two spots to stand at No. 6 garnering 546.867 million (last week 600.396 million) Impressions. Star Plus stayed at No. 7 with 545.437 million (last week 501.322 million) Impressions. Rishtey at No. 8 clocked 455.178 million (last week 465.438 million) Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed at the No. 9 position with a gross viewership of 422.853 million (last week 420.804 million) Impressions. As per select data {HSM (U+R): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 - 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Zee TV’s spin-off show Kundali Bhagyaand its original fiction Kumkum Bhagya grabbed the top two spots with 11.181 million (last week 12.232 million) and 10.554 million (last week 11.468 million) Impressions, respectively. Sony TV’s dance reality show Super Dancer Chapter 2 stood at No. 3 by clocking 10.042 million Impressions (last week 9.185 million). Zee Anmol’s Kumkum Bhagya was at No. 4 with 9.955 million Impressions, followed by Star Bharat’s Kya Haal Mr Panchaal thatslipped by two spots clocking 9.939 million (last week 10.093 million) Impressions in Week 1.

As the New Year starts, Colors continued to lead the flock of Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) in the urban markets, garnering 439.287 million (last week 438.891 million) Impressions. Star Plus climbed by a spot to No. 2 in the urban markets with 385.880 million (last week 353.989 million) Impressions. Zee TV was ranked as the third most-watched Hindi GEC in the urban markets clocking 350.649 million (last week 354.527 million) Impressions.
