Sachin Kalbag, Resident Editor, The Hindu, has decided to move on from the paper and will soon join Hindustan Times as Executive Editor for the national edition. Based in Mumbai, he will be closely looking at the Mumbai edition too. He will report to Sukumar Ranganathan, Editor-in-Chief, Hindustan Times.
While Kalbag could not be reached for comments, sources close to the development confirmed the news to BestMediaInfo. He will be joining the Hindustan Times in late January 2018 and is currently serving his notice period at The Hindu.
This will be Kalbag’s second stint at HT, where he had also served as the Online Editor between 2007 and 2008. Armed with over 22 years of experience in the print and digital media houses, he started his career in 1994 with mid-day where he left as Content Head, Online and Mobile in 2003. Moving on from there, he went on to join Digit (Jasubhai Digital Media) as Executive Editor and stayed there for about two years.
Between 2005 and 2007, he worked as the Washington Correspondent for DNA. There on, as the Online Editor of Hindustan Times, he led the online publication to make HT the country’s first integrated multimedia newsroom.
He spent the next three years at Mail Today as the Senior Editor. In 2011, he joined mid-day again as the Editor, Mumbai, and stayed there for about five years. In October 2015, he joined The Hindu as the Resident Editor.
