English news television channel Republic TV launched its android mobile application on November 6, exactly six months after the channel’s launch on May 6, 2017.
Boasting of innovative features, the Republic World App binds digital, TV and media. Written entirely in Kotlin and claiming to be the lightest English news app in the world, it has a memory footprint of 3.6MB.
The Republic World App is available on the Google Play store (for Android phones) and will launch on the App Store for iOS devices by the end of the month.
Jay Chauhan, COO, RepublicWorld, said, “Since our inception earlier this year, we’ve been focused on newer ways of driving engagement with our content and delivering the best possible user experience. That’s reflected in our strategy to invest in amazing technology and content teams, produce live and VoD content in mobile-specific aspect ratios, our choice of the tech stack and a host of other interactive and personalisation features part of our product pipeline.”
Apart from offering the breaking news, the app delivers HD streaming video, large images and has a range of other features, including in-video chat and round-the-clock access to Arnab Goswami, Founder and Editor-in-chief of Republic TV.
Goswami said, “Republic has been on super-fast expansion spree – we launched the channel in May, the website in July and now the app in November. We also launched in the Middle East and North Africa, on November 5. I am so proud of my entire team and the technology team especially, who after months of determined effort has produced one of the world’s lightest news apps without compromising on the content or video quality for a superior user experience. With the app, Republic has established itself as a media-tech company, which reflects in our new tagline – Republic- Digital. TV. Media.”
In addition to taking its HD Live TV viewing feature onto the app, the Republic World app has used technological innovations to ensure that app users can directly engage and talk to anchors and panellists on Live TV. This allows users to participate in on-air debates in real-time by expressing their opinion and immediately respond to breaking news stories on-air.
The vertical video feature on the app which gets activated during Goswami’s prime time show (9pm to 11pm IST) gives an engaging live video experience optimised for portrait viewing on mobile phones. The feature relies on the debate production being specially produced and streamed in real-time in a 9:16 video format.
Using its editorial partnerships, the news in your language feature of the app ensures the Republic World App beams news stories and video content in English, Hindi and eight Indian regional languages, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Oriya and Gujarati. The app also uses its partner network to give its users every go-to habit including innovation, lifestyle, travel, wheels (automobiles), music and gadgets.
