To meet the philosophy of challenging the norms, Star Bharat is offering in Hindi General Entertainment space a show to give devotional music a cool quotient.
Om Shanti Om is a musical stage of rare blend of tradition and trends, where contestants will re-invent known devotional songs that appeal to modern India. Each episode of the show will have contestants singing a familiar devotional song in a re-arranged form, which will test their versatility. This will be first time that TV will witness a genre not just being re-kindled but re-invented.
The show will also see the debut of Swami Ramdev as ‘Maha Guru’ on television. The show will also have actress Sonakshi Sinha and singers Shekhar Ravjiani and Kanika Kapoor. Aparshakti Khurana will be seen as a host on the show. The set of the show has been designed by Omang Kumar.
Produced by Colosseum, the show will present 14 participants who will lend their voices to the all re-arranged devotional music composed by music composer Aditya Pushkarna. A special episode will be aired to commemorate the launch of Star India’s new channel Star Bharat on August 28 from 6pm to 8pm. The show will be aired every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm.
Swami Ramdev said, “This is a great platform to bring out devotional genre of music through interesting renditions unheard before. I am delighted to be part of this show because it is everything that Indians are proud of, our tradition, our culture and our faith. With Om Shanti Om, we will redefine devotional music in a way it appeals to the youngsters today.”
Sonakshi Sinha said, “I have always been spiritual and believe that music is the best way to reach any level of spirituality. Om Shanti Om is an extension of that belief and I love the way it is combining contemporary and youthful music with devotion!”
Shekar Ravjiani, who will be seen judging the show, said, “When I heard the concept, I was amazed. This is the first time devotional songs will be sung in the rearranged version on national television.”
Kanika Kapoor said, “I am very excited to be the part of the show. As a trained classical music singer, I wish to focus on the technicalities as well as the vocals of all the lovely contestants.”
