Sahara India Media (SIM), which operates six television news channels and one print and digital publication each, has appointed Arup Ghosh as the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of its media division.

The company operates one Hindi national channel Samay News Network and five regional news channels, including an Urdu channel, Aalami, print publication and digital. It is recasting its programming and packaging with an eye on a digital future.

SIM has brought in Ghosh who will be responsible for maintaining the standards and the legacy of the institution along with fostering an entrepreneurial digital culture.

Samay News Network with its seven editions of the Hindi daily newspaper Rashtriya Sahara and nine editions of Urdu daily newspaper Roznama Rashtriya Sahara is now set to expand its digital presence with Ghosh leading the digital reinvention of the newsroom operations.

He has over three decades of experience in print, TV and online journalism. After six years in NDTV, Ghosh launched four channels for Sahara TV, national Hindi news channel Channel 7 (now News18 India) and recast English news channel NewsX. He has also worked with The Times of India, Hindustan Times and The Statesman.

Ghosh said, “It’s a matter of great privilege to be back at SIM, especially at a time when the media landscape is undergoing transformation with the explosion of digital media. News Media today is taking huge strides towards digitisation as the patterns of news consumption have gone through a sea change since 2002 when I led the rollout of Samay and other regional news channels.”

He further added, “We are aiming to take Samay News Network and Rashtriya Sahara (Hindi and Urdu) to the next level by introducing differentiated content which are a cut above the competition with a fine forward-looking digital strategy and maximising content monetisation through synergised operations between its TV, print and digital verticals.”

As part of the revamp, Ghosh is launching two finely crafted news shows – Editor’s Choice and AG’s Take.
