The television space in India is going through a massive change. The audience is slowly opening up to the idea of finite series and season-based shows. With Naagin announcing a season 2, there is growing confidence in the format and the Indian audience's approval of it. Catching up on the trend of finite series, Zee will launch its new show 'Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma' on June 25, 2016.

The 52-episode finite series will be aired on weekends and is expected to change Zee's weekend programming trend. The show will trace the journey of Zeenat, a mother of two, deserted by her husband during one of the darkest phases of Indian history – the Partition.

“We aim to fortify our weekend primetime with a differentiated concept like 'Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma'. The character of Amma is an average Indian housewife placed amidst circumstances that are far from average. In the most troubled times during Partition, which had no security or dignity for a woman, she refused to be bogged down by social constraints and made her own rules. Her journey from a mother to a matriarch for millions makes her a beacon of hope for countless women and we hope her journey will connect with the audience,” said, Akash Chawla, Business Head, Zee TV & Zee Studios.

The show boasts of an ensemble star cast with stalwarts like Aman Verma, film actor Nawab Shah, Deepraj Rana and Nasir Khan Walker. The show also marks the television debut of film actor Urvashi Sharma (Raina Joshi), essaying the author-backed title role and supermodel-turned-actor Shahwar Ali.

Speaking about the show, the cast and crew, the show's producer, Farhn P Zamma of Salt Media LLP, said, “It is a privilege to have my very first production venture reach global audience through a leading broadcaster like Zee TV. 'Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma' is the story of a woman's resilience and gumption. It has some extremely powerful characters played by some of the finest actors in the industry. We have a strong technical crew working towards producing a show that is nothing short of a film. Let's hope the audience connect with our labour of love.”

The show is being shot at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad on a film camera in a film format to give the show the canvas and scale of a larger-than-life blockbuster. Not only are the actors of the show closely associated with films but even its technical crew and creative team have strong film backgrounds. The multi-layered sets that depict five distinct decades have been designed by art director Tariq Khan noted for his work in 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. The costumes, jewellery and other accessories have been designed and created in-house by stylist Ajay Kumar who has worked across opulent dramas like 'Ram Leela', 'Bajirao Mastaani' and 'Phantom'. The dialogue for the show is penned by Aloke Upadhya who has assisted the direction of Salman Khan films like Dabangg 2, Partner and Jai Ho. The talented Kingshuk Chakravrthi is credited with the show's impactful music and background score.

The show will be aired every Saturday and Sunday, starting June 25 at 10:30 pm.
