Times Network announced the launch of its latest English movie channel, ‘Movies Now 2’. The channel which will offer stylish, edgy, fast-paced, new age content in SD and HD comes with the tagline “Hollywood’s wildchild”. Movies Now 2 is the fourth channel in the network’s English entertainment bouquet, the other three being Movies Now, Romedy Now and MN+.
The channel will be aired from June 24, 2016 and will be available across leading cable & DTH platforms.
Speaking about how positioning is important and how Movies Now 2 will be different from the other English movie channels in the network’s cluster, Vivek Srivastava, Senior Vice President & Head, English Entertainment Cluster, Times Network, said, “The success we have seen with Romedy Now and MN+ is that whenever you segment and position the brand well and whenever it is backed up by the right content, it will always be a success. From a content standpoint Movies Now 2 will be edgy and new age. From a viewer point of view it is for the youth and young at heart. From a channel personality viewpoint we believe that this channel will be more rebellious than any other channel on television.”
The channel will not only showcase great titles, but will also package them in interesting on-air properties like ‘Moviegasm’, ‘Swag Nights’, ‘BAE Love’, ‘2wisted’, ‘Thug Life’ among others showcasing a variety of Hollywood movies like Hangover III, Kick Ass 2, Bangkok Dangerous, the Oceans series, R.I.P.D. and 21 to name a few. The channel will also premier a series of new age titles. Movies like Sin City 2, Hot Pursuit and Poltergeist will be premiered in the first three months while the channel has plans to premier one movie per month.
Explaining the reason for going with the name Movies Now 2 instead of a completely different name like they did with Romedy Now, Srivastava said that Movies Now was an iconic brand and the reason to go with the name was to make the channel as mass as possible and not make it into a niche channel as was the aim with Romdey Now.
Talking about the marketing plan for the channel, Srivastava said, “Digital is very important for us because the TG is completely digital. So there will be a lot of focus on display and on video products across platforms, be it video streaming sites or applications. There will also be banner presence. Then we have a robust TV and print plan and a significantly large outdoor exercise plan.”
