Five months after AajTak turned free to air (FTA), the only remaining pay channel in Hindi news, Zee News, has also decided to go FTA. The move is expected to further expand the reach of the channel.
The migration of 'Zee News from pay to free-to-air channel was approved by the Board of Directors of Zee Media Corporation vide a circular resolution passed on May 6, 2016.
The unstable viewership despite the highly rated primetime show DNA has forced the channel to forego its subscription revenue. On the other hand, the expected improvement in viewership after turning FTA is likely to result in a hike in ad rates that could help improvethe channel's ad revenue.
According to BARC data for Week 17 of 2016, Zee News did not find a place among the top 5 Hindi news channels. The latest top order is led by India TV followed by AajTak, ABP News, India News and News Nation.
