If market buzz is to be believed, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is planning to further strengthen its presence in the Marathi television market with the launch of another general entertainment channel targeted at the youth. Being the frontrunner in a lot of genres, this will probably be the first youth GEC in the Marathi TV entertainment space.
The channel has been tentatively named 'Zee Yuva', according to the market sources. It is likely to be operational in July this year. It is learnt that the channel's launch will be announced along with its logo and positioning early next month. When contacted, spokespersons at ZEEL refused to confirm the news.
Marathi music channels already present include 9X Jhakaas, Maiboli and Sangeet Marathi.
While there was no confirmation from ZEEL sources, a source close to the development said, “It has been in pipeline for a month now. It is just an idea and the management at ZEEL is still working on the thought process.”
This will be the third channel from the network in the Marathi entertainment space and fourth in the Marathi regional space. It already operates a GEC (Zee Marathi), movie channel Zee Talkies, and news channel Zee24 Taas.
The network's sister company Zee Media Corporation had recently announced the launch of an English news channel, WION.
