Women empowerment through education forms the essence of Zee TV's new fiction show 'Sarojini', which premieres on July 20, 2015 at the 6.30 pm slot. This is the second show being announced in the Zee bouquet after 'Ek Tha Raja, Ek Thi Rani'.
Produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms, 'Sarojini' will replace 'Service Wali Bahu', which is being wound up.
Set in the rustic interiors of Uttar Pradesh, 'Sarojini' traces the journey of Sarojini, a strong, well-educated girl who gets married into a family with a regressive patriarchal set-up – a household dominated by her over-bearing, chauvinistic father-in-law Dushyant. Refusing to cow down to his controlling ways like the rest of his bahus, Sarojini takes the challenge head on and strives for a healthy balance of power and influence in the household, leveraging education to her advantage.
Shiny Doshi is essaying the title role, while Pankaj Tripathy will be seen in the role of her father-in-law. Mohit Sehgal plays the role of Sarojini's husband.
Zee TV Business Head Pradeep Hejmadi said, “Zee TV, as a socially responsible broadcaster, has always created awareness through its content and influenced public mindsets positively. 'Sarojini' endeavours to highlight how education serves as the wind beneath a woman's wings, giving her the self-esteem she needs to assert herself. Our protagonist, Sarojini, will surely be a role model for countless women across India and a harbinger of hope and positive change.”
Meanwhile, as reported earlier, Zee TV is all set to launch its period romance set in the pre-Independence era, 'Ek Tha Raja, Ek Thi Rani'. The show will air Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm. With this, the channel will be shifting its primetime drama, 'Qubool Hai' which recently completed 700 episodes, to the 7.30 pm time slot on week days from July 27.
