WB grounded for one day by MIB

Ministry of Information & Broadcasting penalises the channel for telecasting the 'V/UA' certified film 'It's a Boy Girl Thing' on January 7, 2013, on the ground that there were highly objectionable visuals

The Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) & (3) of Section 20 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and under paras 6.1 & 6.2 of the guidelines for downlinking from India, has ordered a stoppage of transmission or retransmission of “WB” TV channel for one day on any platform throughout India with effect from 0001 hrs on January 24, 2014 till 0001 hrs on January 25, 2014.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has penalised “WB” TV for telecasting the “V/UA” certified film, 'It's a Boy Girl Thing' on 7.1. 2013 at 11:51:41 hrs.

The competent authority came to the conclusion that telecast of the film was in violation of Rule 6 (1) (a), 6 (1) (d), 6 (1) (k), 6 (1) (o) & 6 (5) of the cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 under the cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. The channel is expected to be fully aware of the laws, rules & regulations. Their internal system should be so established as to discharge their obligations fully as per rules and no excuses are acceptable for such lapses.

The film telecast by the channel shows highly objectionable visuals which denigrate women. The story is about a boy and a girl transforming into opposite sexes overnight. There is a scene where the boy is trying to bend his erect penis with his hand but fails. The shot goes back to the girl and she is seen opening a drawer, she sees the panties with week days written on them. She takes out a panty from inside, removes her pajama and wears it. Afterwards she pick up a bra and looks at it with an expression of frustration on her face. On other side, the boy is seen standing in front of the minor: his penis is still erect and protruding under the shorts. In span of visuals, the boy wears his pants, again his penis is erect. The visuals shown are very offensive and obscene as the private parts of male and female are focused upon. The portrayal of the sex change is in bad taste and is indecent. The visuals are not fit to be viewed by children and also not suitable for unrestricted public exhibition. These visuals also denigrate women.
