ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has taken on board Kevin Pietersen, former England cricket captain and one of the most exciting batsmen of the modern era, on its presentation and analysis team for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament to be played in Sri Lanka. In addition, Pietersen will also play an important role in the publicity and promotion of ESS's broadcast of ICC World Twenty20.
It will be the first time that Pietersen will feature on live broadcast as an analyst. Pietersen was named Player of the Tournament at the last edition of ICC World Twenty20 held in West Indies in 2010. This places him as one of the most suitable persons to give insightful perspectives on this iconic T20 tournament, a format in which he has excelled as a player, thus further enhancing coverage of the ICC World Twenty20.
Announcing the induction of Pietersen, Peter Hutton, Managing Director, ESS, said,"We're delighted that one of cricket's biggest names is part of our team, and look forward to hearing the insights of someone who knows the format and knows the current stars inside out."
Huw Bevan, Senior VP – Production at ESS, said, “ESS has been instrumental in developing and pushing the boundaries of television coverage of the T20 format at a global level since the first World T20 tournament in 2007. We are excited to add Pietersen to our team of experts for the tournament – his vibrant and engaging personality will provide a very contemporary and unique view for our viewers on the world's biggest T20 event.”
Pietersen, who played for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL earlier this year, said, "I am very excited about working with ESPN Star Sports covering the ICC World Twenty20 watching England defend their title."
