Fernando Machado, Chief Marketing Officer at Activision Blizzard, has called it a day at the gaming company and announced that he has joined NotCo, a meat-alternative food company.

Announcing his move through a LinkedIn post, Machado said, “I have been a fan of the brand for years and that speaks volumes about the quality of the marketing team. I subscribe to the ambition/vision of reinventing the food industry one delicious mouthful at a time. And the more I got to know the people from NotCo, the more I felt compelled to be part of the team.”

In his post, he also mentioned that ‘Why Not’ is more than just a slogan or a hashtag and stated, “It's a philosophy, a way of thinking. The courage to make it different, to trail a path that you will need to develop yourself. It's a bit scary for sure. And usually if you take this path it doesn't really mean you are fearless. It means you will go for it even when you are afraid.”

Having joined Activision Blizzard as the CMO in April 2021, Machado in his bidding adieu post also went on to share his gratitude for the gaming company’s team and mentioned that he has learned a lot about gaming, digital, and perhaps most importantly about himself in his stint.

“It has been an honour to work with some of the games I always loved to play. I will be always cheering for you guys (and I am looking forward to playing Diablo IV!)” he added.

Prior to joining Activision Blizzard, Machado was the Global Chief Marketing Officer at Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Tim Hortons, Burger King and Popeyes from January 2020 to April 2021.

He was also associated with the Burger King Corporation for nearly 6 years starting March 2014 wherein he was appointed the Head of Brand Marketing and later elevated to the position of Global CMO in October 2017.

Moreover, Machado had already spent more than 17 years in Unilever, which also happens to be his entry point to the marketing world, before joining Burger King.

In his near to two-decade stint at Unilever, his roles spanned from that of a part-time intern in January 1996, to Marketing Management Trainee in 1998, Local Brand Manager in January 2000, Regional Brand Development Manager in January 2001, Regional Skincare Director in January 2004, Global Brand Development Director-Vaseline in January 2006, Regional Brand Development VP-Savoury in November 2009 to Global Brand Development VP- Dove Skin Cleansing and Care in September 2010.
