Delhi: Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled strategies to tackle password-sharing for the company's streaming service, set to commence in June, with the aim of fortifying subscriber growth and enhancing profitability.
During a recent interview, Iger emphasised the company's ambition to transform streaming into a thriving business venture.
Iger disclosed impending password-sharing restrictions, indicating that the company will embark on its first substantial endeavour in this domain in select countries and markets starting June.
The implementation of password-sharing regulations began with new subscribers at the onset of the year and was subsequently extended to existing subscribers in March.
This initiative mirrors actions taken by streaming rival Netflix, whose crackdown on password-sharing significantly boosted subscriber numbers, resulting in nearly 22 million new subscribers in the latter half of 2023.
Iger's comments followed a show of support from Disney investors, who backed him and other company directors in a proxy battle against activist investors, including Nelson Peltz, who had critiqued Disney's performance in the streaming television sector.
