Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has undergone a slew of changes in the past year in the pursuit to become the ‘everything app’.
The latest addition to these is Musk’s plan to expand X Premium (Twitter Blue Subscription), a paid service worth $8, to include a new ad-free tier.
The CEO of the microblogging platform, Linda Yaccarino, confirmed the same in a meeting with debt holders.
Post the fruition of this, X Premium which allows access to exclusive features such as customising the app icon, an edit posts button, text formatting, longer posts and videos, and access to X Pro will likely be split into three categories- Basic, Standard and Plus.
Currently, X Premium subscribers may see fewer ads in their timeline compared to users who don’t pay to use X.
As per a Researcher, who runs the handle @Aaronp613 on X, the latest version of the X app also includes code that reveals the existence of three new X Premium tiers.
X Premium will be broken up into 3 tiers:
Premium Basic - Full Ads
Premium Standard - Half Ads
Premium Plus - No Ads pic.twitter.com/I0CyaQf2ME— Aaron (@aaronp613) October 5, 2023
While the users with Basic tier would see ads regularly when using X, the Standard tier users would see comparatively fewer ads and users who would subscribe to the Plus tier would see no ads at all.
However, it is still unclear as to how much would X charge for the new tiers, and to which tier would the current subscribers be migrated.
