Google to allow SRB verified Real Money Games on Play Store

Having initiated a year-long pilot program in September last year, which enabled fantasy sports and rummy games to be available to the Indian masses on Google Play, Google has emphasised that it plans to allow Self Regulatory Bodies-verified online Real Money Games, once the new regulatory framework for gaming platforms is revealed by the Indian government.

Keeping in mind that the pilot programme is slated to end later this month, the tech giant has also updated its support page to ensure that no new apps enter into the pilot programme post its culmination.

However, the existing apps that have been a part of the pilot program will continue to remain on Google Play Store till mid-January, next year, as Google still awaits the planned implementation of SRB framework for verification of permissible RMGs in India.

This comes at a time when the RMG sector in India is undergoing the brunt of 28% GST imposition on Full Face Value, which as per many industry players has been “Death by a 1000 cuts” to the mushrooming sector.

“We intend to enable distribution on Google Play for all self regulatory bodies (SRB)-verified online real money games that comply with our policies. We are closely tracking all developments in this regard to determine next steps and timelines,” a Google spokesperson stated.
