The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reduced the base price for title sponsor rights for international cricket matches held in the country to Rs 2.4 crore per match.
This is a decrease from the Rs 3.8 crore per match that MasterCard and Paytm had paid during the previous cycle, as per media reports.
The total base price for the three-year title sponsor rights amounts to Rs 134.4 crore. These rights will commence in September 2023 and conclude in August 2026. The agreement encompasses a total of 56 matches, comprising 15 Tests, 15 ODIs and 26 T20 internationals.
The naming rights for all bilateral series involving Team India will be granted to the title sponsor. The tender for the title sponsor rights was issued on August 1 and will be available for purchase until August 21.
The BCCI recently established a higher base price for digital rights compared to television rights. Additionally, the BCCI has reduced the overall base price to Rs 45 crore per match for the upcoming media rights cycle. This is a decrease from the previous Rs 61 crore per match, which Disney Star paid in the recently concluded cycle.
During the period from 2019 to 2023, Paytm and MasterCard were the title sponsors and paid Rs 3.8 crore per match for international matches held in India.
MasterCard became the title sponsor towards the conclusion of the agreement, taking over from Paytm, which had initially secured the rights in 2019, as per the reports.
In 2015, Paytm secured the title sponsor rights previously held by Micromax by submitting a winning bid of Rs 2.42 crore per match.
Previously, the BCCI had reduced the official lead sponsor rights' base price to Rs 3 crore per match, which was originally at Rs 5.07 crore per match paid by Byju's for Team India's home matches.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have lowered the base price for international tournaments from Rs 1.56 crore per match to Rs 1 crore per match.
