Google’s parent company Alphabet has announced that YouTube’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Susan Wojcicki is going to part ways with the company.
Wojcicki has had a long 25-year association with Google, and for the past nine years she had been serving at YouTube.
Indian-American Neal Mohan, who is currently serving as the Chief Product Officer (CPO) at YouTube, will take over the position of CEO after Wojcicki. Mohan will also assume the role of SVP at YouTube.
Wojcicki said that an “incredible leadership team” is in place at YouTube and the timing is right for her to move on.
“After nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I'm passionate about,” she said in a blog post.
Wojcicki added that in the short-term she has a “plan to support Neal and help with the transition, which will include continuing to work with some YouTube teams, coaching team members, and meeting with creators. In the longer term, I’ve agreed with Sundar to take on an advisory role across Google and Alphabet.”
“Susan has a unique place in Google history and has made the most incredible contribution to products used by people everywhere," Larry Page and Sergey Brin said in a statement. “We’re so grateful for all she’s done over the last 25 years."
