Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company is creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative artificial intelligence (AI).
"Over the longer term, we'll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways," Zuckerberg said.
"We're starting by pulling together a lot of the teams working on generative AI across the company into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all of our different products. In the short-term, we will focus on building creative and expressive tools," he added.
Zuckerberg further said that the company is exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences.
"We have a lot of foundational work to do before getting to the really futuristic experiences, but I am excited about all of the new things we will build along the way," he added.
The move comes as technology giants and well-funded emerging companies compete to showcase progress in machine learning methods and integrate artificial intelligence models into their offerings.
Meanwhile, Snapchat is introducing a chatbox-powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT's latest version. "My AI", Snapchat bot will be fixed to the chat tab of the app, appearing above chats with friends. However, it will only be accessible to users who are subscribed to Snapchat Plus.
