After his two decades long association with Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) - first as a member of the Consumer Complaints Council for ten years, followed by the next ten years on the ASCI board - the tenure of Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, has come to an end.

Sinha took to Twitter to break the news to the public and apprise the people in the advertising and marketing fraternity of the move.

Extending his gratitude to the self-regulatory body of advertising in the country, Sinha told BestMediaInfo.com that his two-decade long association was both wonderful and rewarding.

“It was a wonderful journey to have been on the ASCI board for the last ten years and before that ten years on the Consumer Complaints Council which was very rewarding as I saw first-hand how consumer activists and people representing consumer bodies see issues very differently from us advertising/marketing people. These learnings were brought to me by my board role,” he said.

Upon being questioned as to what were some of the key developments that happened under his tenure at ASCI, Sinha replied that a slew of changes happened, but the most commendable has been to see how the self-regulatory body became a very responsive body and began keeping up with the digital age at great speed.

“While I can't claim any credit, but I was very happy to see the speed of change in response to today's times, be it tackling digital media complaints or creating the mechanisms for the adjudication of intra-industry complaints or the pre-emptive measures of advertising advisory. I’m sure there are many more in the pipeline,” he added.

Commenting on the culmination of Sinha’s tenure, Manisha Kapoor, CEO, ASCI, said, “ASCI has indeed been fortunate to have someone like Shashi with his impeccable moral compass and his ability to persuade and inspire people on to the path of self-regulation. We, at ASCI, will miss him but we know that we can count on him as a well-wisher and supporter of self-regulation in the years to come.”

In the media and advertising landscape, Sinha also holds the position of Chairman at both Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) and Media Research Users Council India (MRUCI).
