Change in Hindi news pecking order – Times Now Navbharat overtakes ABP News

The Hindi news genre has witnessed a change in the pecking order where Times Now Navbharat has jumped to No. 6 for the past four weeks. It’s a big leap for the channel as it has zoomed past legacy brands in a short span of time.

In the rolling weeks from 42 to 45, the 10-month-old channel remained ahead of ABP News. It recorded a relative share of 6.83% in the latest Week 45 (TG: HSM, NCCS 15+), growing over its relative share of 6.77% in the previous week. ABP News had a 6.6% of relative share in the rolling Week 44, which increased to 6.7% in the latest week i.e. Week 45.

Earlier Times Now Navbharat had overtaken legacy channel Zee News in weekly ratings of Hindi news channels, after which Zee News opted out of BARC ratings.

Times Now Navbharat has been showing consistent improvement in time spent (TSV) on a weekly basis. In the latest Week 45, the channel’s TSV stood at 19.8 minutes.

“Launched initially, as an HD Hindi News Channel during the very challenging pandemic times, Times Now Navbharat has firmly positioned itself as a go to destination for News in Hindi. With distinctive show formats like ‘News Ki Pathshala’ and ‘Sawal Public ka’ TNNavbharat has provided viewers not only refreshing news content but has added a new dimension of greater interactivity as well,” according to the channel.

“Sawal Public Ka, a prime-time debate show anchored by Editor-in-chief Navika Kumar, gives viewers a chance to put questions directly to the panellists. This unique element enhances viewer engagement as well as makes them feel empowered. Moreover, contrary to many debates shows on other News channels, ‘Sawal Public ka’ is not a platform for warring factions tossing tall claims and counterclaims and misleading data. ‘Live fact check’ during the debate itself protects the viewers from being misled by the panellist,” the channel said in a statement.

‘News Ki Pathshala’, another prime-time show anchored by Sushant Sinha on Times Now Navbharat, decodes the news and current affairs for its viewers. The channel said that this show has been a paradigm shift in the style of news presentation on Television. “Sushant not only deciphers news but brings a different perspective to it which has big resonance and that is why this show is a huge hit on digital platforms too. ‘News Ki Pathshala’ is one of the most shared and liked TV news shows on various social media platforms.”

“On the time spent (TSV) front, both the above programs are giving tough competition to prime-time shows of other top channels. The growing popularity of these shows are positively contributing to Times Now Navbharat’s share in Hindi news prime time. The channel’s prime time is doing better than other time bands with 7% market share as compared to 6.8 % of the channel average,” Times Now Navbharat said.

Among 12 Hindi news channels, News18 India remains at No. 1 with a 15.4%% relative share followed by TV9 Bharatvarsh at No. 2 with 14%, Aaj Tak at No. 3 with 13%, India TV at No. 4 with 12.1% and Republic Bharat at No. 5 with 10.5%.
