At a time when the entire economy is looking up to the government for protection against the impact of Covid-19, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar assured Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) office-bearers in a virtual meeting held today that the Modi government will take all steps to help the media and entertainment industry.

According to multiple sources, the IBF delegation was led by NP Singh, IBF President and CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India, and attended by Uday Shankar, President of Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific, and Chairman of Star India; Punit Goenka, MD and CEO, Zeel; and Rajat Sharma, NBF President and Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, India TV, among others.
The sources informed BestMediaInfo.com that the minister said NTO 2.0 will not be implemented anytime soon.
Javadekar said the television industry should resume production of shows and the centre had no objection to this. The minister said he would also speak to the Maharashtra government.
On clearing government dues to broadcasters as suggested by both IBF and AAAI, the minister said the amount is being cleared and Rs 145 crore has already been disbursed so far.
IBF also raised the issue related to TRAI’s recommendations for BARC with the minister. The minister said his ministry is looking into it very seriously and will see how both their concerns can be addressed.
