Blink Digital only Indian agency to shine at 2019 Webby Awards

The agency picked up two Webbys for the Amazon Echo launch campaign in India. It also was recognised as a Webby Honouree for the ‘Kentucky Flying Objects’ campaign for KFC India

Mumbai-based full-service digital agency Blink Digital yet again shone at the 23rd Annual Webby Awards — the only Indian agency to win at the 2019 edition for its work on Amazon Echo and additionally bagging an Honouree mention for KFC India.

The agency picked up two Webbys — in the ‘Best Media Strategy’ and ‘Best Use of Data Driven Media in Advertising, Media & PR’ categories — for the Amazon Echo launch campaign in India. It also was recognised as a Webby Honouree for the very popular ‘Kentucky Flying Objects’ campaign for KFC India.

Dooj Ramchandani, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Blink Digital, said, “The Webby Awards are the leading awards for excellence on the internet and are often referred to as ‘the Oscars of the Internet’. We are extremely delighted and humbled to win two Webby Awards for our work, and to join the ranks of Webby winners such as Google, Nike, BBC, Spotify, Instagram, NASA and BuzzFeed.”

To help Amazon launch the smart speaker Echo in India, Blink Digital conceptualised and created over 1,700 individual pre-roll ads on YouTube. The customised ads were targeted according to the songs people searched for on the platform. They highlighted Echo’s association with music and the capabilities of the virtual assistant, Alexa.

For KFC India, Blink Digital helped the brand launch its Smoky Grilled Wings around the Makar Sankranti festival with a tactical ‘Kentucky Flying Objects’ campaign. KFC’s chicken meal boxes, innovatively, could be turned into a drone, thereby staying true to the popular Indian festival’s central theme of kite flying.

Both campaigns, while finding favour with consumers, helped the brands up their sales and brand recall numbers.

This is the third year that Blink Digital has made waves at the Webbys. The agency’s first win was in 2014, also for KFC India. Last year Blink Digital was named a Webby Honouree for WhatIfDrinks.

The wins for Blink Digital become all the more special with The Webby Awards being considered the internet’s most-respected symbol of success. The award is conferred by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). The 23rd Annual Webby Awards saw over 13,000 entries from 70 countries worldwide and the awards show will be held on May 13, 2019 in New York.
