BARC India, the only television audience measurement agency in the country, has announced the launch of its new service ‘BARC PreView’. Star India has become the first user of the service to get the viewership data for the opening match of IPL 2018, a week before it is released to the world.
BARC PreView is a service wherein the subscribers are able to access the data of a specific event or show, three days after it is telecast. PreView data is also released through the BARC Media Workstation (BMW) software, which is available on subscription.
“BARC India’s goal has always been to deliver insights that help drive value for our clients. Our latest offering ‘PreView’ is another product that will aid the growth of industry. The fact that we are able to deliver viewership data three days after telecast...is a testament to robustness and health of our panel and cutting-edge technology. This is in line with international standards,” said Partho Dasgupta, CEO, BARC India.
Generally, BARC India releases weekly average data every Thursday in its BMW Software and a few slices of that on its website for public consumption.
Using this product of BARC India, Star India has announced that the opening game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 grabbed 6.355 million Impressions (India Urban, Males 15+AB). The data has arrived almost one week ahead of the planned release of viewership data on April 19. The pre-launch of data has taken everybody by surprise, though it has been released through BARC PreView.
The opening game was played on April 7 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, the latter re-entering the tournament after two years of ban imposed after the eighth edition of IPL. All matches of IPL 2018 will be simulcast on 10 channels, including Star Sports 1/ HD; Star Sports Select 1/ HD (English); Star Sports 1/ HD (Hindi); Star Sports 1 Tamil (Tamil) along with Suvarna Plus (Kannada); Jalsha Movies (Bengali) and Maa Movies (Telugu).
