SAB brings Tenali Rama back to Indian TV screens

The show will replace Chidiya Ghar which will shift to an early slot of 7.30pm. Ichhapyari Nagin, which was telecast at 7.30pm, will come to a close

Tenali Rama is one of the most loved and interesting characters of Indian folklore. 27 years after Tenali Rama appeared on Doordarshan, Sony SAB is bringing the witty and humorous character back to the India TV screens. Premiering on Tuesday, July 11, every Monday to Friday at 8pm on Sony SAB, Tenali Rama will take the audience back in time to the 15th Century and prove that intelligence and presence of mind can be used deftly to solve any problem or to deal with any demanding situation.

The show will replace Chidiya Ghar, one of the oldest running shows which will shift to an early time slot of 7.30pm. In turn, Ichhapyari Nagin, which is telecast at 7.30pm, will come to a close. Ichhapyari Nagin was launched on September 27, 2016.

Neeraj Vyas

Neeraj Vyas, Senior EVP and Head, Channel SAB and Max cluster of channels, said, ‚ÄúIndia has a compelling tradition of both written and oral folklore. Our epics are treasures that teach life lessons via stories. Tenali Rama was a legendary poet of the 15th century who has remained immortal; his wit being admired and relevant even in today‚Äôs times. With Tenali Rama‚Äôs adaptation on SAB, we intend to offer a restored and renewed version of this classic chronicle.‚ÄĚ

An animated series on the character was also telecast in 2003. Tenali Rama was a witty poet in the court of King Krishnadevraya. With his acumen and humour, it did not take much time for him to become the King’s favourite. However, his popularity bred contempt in Tathacharya, the head priest of the darbaar, who worked relentlessly to dishonour Tenali. The way Tenali handles tricky situations created by Tathacharya will be a great treat for viewers to watch and they will end up learning from it as well. The show is being produced by Contiloe Pitcures.

Abhimanyu Singh, CEO, Contiloe Pictures, said, ‚ÄúTenali Rama is a show full of wit and humour. Krishnadevaraya's kingdom was the richest during the Medieval times and we have taken utmost care to show this opulent kingdom with rich sets, costumes and tradition. Tenali Rama is a classic comedy made on a grand scale and we are very confident that the audience will like it.‚ÄĚ

Some of the other important people in Tenali’s (played by Krishna Bharadwaj) life are his mother, Laxmi played by Nimisha Vakharia; his wife Sharda, played by Priyamvada Kant; Chinnadevi played by Sonia Sharma; King Krishnadevraya played by Manav Gohil; Thirumalamba played by Priyanka Singh; Tathacharya played by Pankaj Berry; Mantri Timmarasu played by Jiten Mukhi; Dhani, Mani played by Sohit Vijaysoni and Sanny Kishan; and Goddess Kali played by Barkha Bisht.
